Take a Peek Into Six Greenwich Village Homes
On Sunday, May 6, GVSHP will present its 14th Annual Village House Tour, a benefit that raises funds to support our work to educate about and advocate for the preservation of the distinctive character and irreplaceable architecture of our neighborhoods. This year, six homeowners in Greenwich Village will open their doors for the tour.
These interiors reveal just how different one house can look from another on the inside. Ticket holders will tour a former stable with rich historic details dating from its Roaring Twenties conversion to apartments; a townhouse with a stunning triple parlor replete with grand Italianate details and intricate plaster moldings; a Greek Revival townhouse whose untraditional stair placement and rear extension lends the elegant parlor floor a modern look; an impressive Greek Revival whose owner’s Parisian style and impeccable collections blend into an eclectic and fabulous whole; an Anglo-Italianate brownstone with a surprising color scheme in each room; and a four-story Greek Revival whose large garden and rooftop oasis emphasize the home’s serene furnishings.
Additionally, the New York Studio School, which will serve as the tour’s central ticket pick-up location, will open their Whitney Studio, the personal art studio of artist and art patron Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. In 1918 Whitney commissioned artist Robert Winthrop Chanler to create the room’s spectacular and renowned fireplace and bas-relief ceiling, which will be undergoing extensive renovation in the next several years, so it may be your last chance to see it for a while.
Tickets for this self-guided tour are available on GVSHP’s website in advance for $150 or $250 for two. We recommend purchasing your tickets in advance, as day-of tickets, if available, cost $175. We hope you can come and take a peek into some beautiful and historic Village homes and support the work of GVSHP!
