Public Hearing Tomorrow on Proposed Hudson Square Rezoning and Impact on the South Village

     CRITICAL PUBLIC HEARING
TOMORROW
ON PROPOSED HUDSON SQUARE REZONING
AND IMPACT ON THE SOUTH VILLAGE

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28th, the City Planning Commission will hold its SOLE public hearing on Trinity Realty’s proposed Hudson Square Rezoning.

This will be our only opportunity to urge the Commission to lower the proposed height and bulk limits so as not to “Midtown” Hudson Square, and to enact needed and long-promised landmark protections for the neighboring proposed South Village Historic District.

WITHOUT THESE LANDMARK PROTECTIONS, THE SOUTH VILLAGE WILL FACE INCREASED DEVELOPMENT PRESSURE AND ACCELERATED DESTRUCTION IF THE REZONING PASSES.

WHERE: City Planning Commission Spector Hall22 Reade Street (map)

Bring Photo ID

WHEN: Arrive anytime Wednesday morning from 10am to approx. 11:30am

(this is the final meeting agenda item;

                this item will likely not begin until around 11am;

                the earlier you sign up to speak, the earlier you will be called)

When you arrive, there will be a GVSHP representative to help direct you and offer you a sticker to wear indicating your support.

TO TESTIFY:

  • Sign up when you arrive; indicate you want to testify on the Hudson Square Rezoning, and say ‘AGAINST’
  • Write out your testimony; you will be limited to 3 minutes to speak
  • Sample testimony can be found HERE (use letter to Amanda Burden)
  • If possible, bring 12 copies of your testimony to submit (not required); written testimony can be any length
  • If you have to leave before you are called to speak, submit your written testimony

SHY ABOUT PUBLIC SPEAKING? Bring written testimony to submit (sample HERE) and/or just wear a sticker GVSHP will provide to show your support.

CAN’T MAKE THE HEARING? Write to city officials; use sample letters HERE.

Following tomorrow’s hearing, the City Planning Commission will vote and then the plan goes to the City Council for a final vote.

THIS IS ONE OF OUR LAST CHANCES TO ENSURE THAT THE CITY DOES NOT “MIDTOWN” HUDSON SQUARE AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE THE DESTRUCTION OF THE SOUTH VILLAGE IN THE PROCESS.
