A ‘Crazy’ Weekend

Get Crazy
(l. to r.) Stacey Nelkin, Joshua White, Jesse Kornbluth, and Miles Chapin discuss the film and East Village music and performance scene of the 60’s and 70’s after the film.

This past Saturday the GVSHP Brokers Partnership presented a film screening of Get Crazy (1983) at the Anthology Film Archives. The screening was followed up with a lively panel discussion and after party at Veselka Bowery. Get Crazy, a campy satire which has become a cult classic, relives the late 1960’s experience of a music venue inspired by the Fillmore East but is set in the neon-clad 80’s.

After the film, guests were treated to a discussion moderated by culture critic Jesse Kornbluth about the making of the film and the impact of the East Village music scene of the 1960’s and 70’s. The panel featured Get Crazy actors Stacey Nelkin and Miles Chapin along with Joshua White, the creator and director of the Fillmore East’s famed Joshua Light Show.

Following the discussion, a short walk from the theater brought attendees to an intimate after-party, where delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine, and specialty cocktails were flowing at Veselka Bowery on East 1st Street.
