Having our clothes and linen clean is a necessary part of our lives, whether we work in overalls, jeans, a locally tailored suit, or pajamas at home. We may pile it up until the end of the week (or month?) or drop it off somewhere else for convenience or professional standards. Going outside for this service may be necessary since many apartments don’t have a washing machine or drier. While this seemingly mundane service may often be taken for granted, in some rare cases it’s done to a caliber that impresses even the most jaded of customers. When that level of quality service is actually just the second act for a longtime local merchant, the feat is even more impressive. And that’s the case for The Good Earth Cleaners at 6 Bethune Street, our January 2021 Business of the Month.

Located between Hudson and Greenwich Streets, this topnotch dry-cleaner with expert tailoring offers a friendly, caring and professional staff, and delivers too!

From the wonderful nomination we received:

The Good Earth Cleaners is a staple Greenwich Village small business. As a dry cleaner and laundry service, The Good Earth Cleaner has been considered an essential business throughout the pandemic. But even with these difficult headwinds, The Good Earth Cleaners has stood strong, providing a crucial service to those brave enough to weather a battered COVID New York, and always with a smiling face. — Alana

Owner Alan Tang has been a Greenwich Village resident for over two decades. He told us “Ever since I first stepped foot in this neighborhood, I love it and feel it’s a small town in a big city.” Longtime Village residents will recall that he previously owned the old local favorite Photomax, which opened in 1999. Of course with the advent smart phones snd digital cameras, that business saw its demise. Tang’s entrepreneurial spirit and devotion to the neighborhood led him to shift to The Good Earth Cleaners in 2015, allowing him to remain a local small business anchor in the area, and to provide not one but two beloved local stores with an essential service.

Before it was The Good Earth Cleaners.

The Good Earth Cleaners has a unique and joyous atmosphere that is the epitome of the New York – and American – melting pot. Collectively, the staff can speak at least five languages, come from two continents, and three countries! But today, they, like us, call New York home. — Alana

Naturally, in this wonderful part of Greenwich Village, local residents are the main customers, and that includes regular New Yorkers from all walks of life. But the cleansers also get folks from a little outside of their vicinity too, drawn by their sparkling reputation for service and proximity to local industries and businesses, including CEOs and showbiz personalities who form part of their clientele.

The Good Earth Cleaners are known for their excellent service, honesty, and quality cleaning, and many of their customers have become friends of Alan’s and the shop who appreciate the sense of community provided to all of the customers. So, for all your “Drycleaning, Wash+Fold, & Alterations” visit The Good Earth Cleaners at 6 Bethune Street, our January 2021 Business of the Month.
