Welcome Aboard, Gaël Evers
Today we welcome aboard Gaël (pronounced Ga—el) Evers as our new Director of Communication and Design, joining current and continuing Communications and Design Director David Herman. Gaël is a graphic designer and creative strategist who’s passionate about crafting clear, compelling communication that connects deeply with audiences.

Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, raised surfing the Indian Ocean off the east coast of South Africa, and a New Yorker since 2013, Gaël brings a global perspective to his work. Whether designing visual campaigns for a major university or creating content that speaks to human experience, his work is purposeful, authentic, and audience-focused, spaning print, digital, motion, and video, combining visual storytelling with strategic clarity.
Gaël earned his degree in Media, Communications, and Marketing from Durban University of Technology. His early passion for aesthetics was sparked by his mother, a tailor and fashion designer. He has worked across freelance, in-house, and contractor roles, often operating at the intersection of design, community, and culture.
A key highlight of Gaël’s career is his work with Alianza Americas, a transnational network of immigrant-led organizations. He played an integral role in designing campaigns that amplified the voices of migrant communities across the U.S. and Latin America. His work included creating bilingual toolkits, digital graphics, and print collateral that communicated complex issues like immigrant rights, environmental justice, and labor protections in ways that were accessible and humanizing. Gaël also contributed his design skills to the “I Love My Immigrant Family” campaign, a powerful initiative that celebrated immigrant identities and emphasized the importance of family unity. Through his visual storytelling, he helped shape the campaign’s messaging, creating visuals that resonated with diverse audiences and sparked conversations around immigration policy and family values.
Gaël has led creative projects for Chelsea Piers, HLTH, Real Vision, and Payability, moving fluently between industries while staying rooted in a commitment to meaningful communication and design. At NYU’s University Development and Alumni Relations, Gaël contributed to high-impact campaigns including the Alumni Awards, the One Day giving event, and the Pan Asia conference.
Among Gaël’s greatest passions is his adopted hometown of New York City, where he’s lived for over a decade. He says the city has been the main stage for every major chapter of his adult life, and is a frequent source and inspiration for his creativity. Gaël’s says he sees storytelling and design as ways to serve and preserve New York, honoring its history, complexity, and everyday beauty.
A passionate vegan cook, Gaël’s is number four of five siblings, part of a close but globally scattered family. That experience of being connected across continents informs his deep understanding of belonging, distance, and the work it takes to stay close.
Gaël is excited to help tell the stories of Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo — its people, its architecture, and its historic movements — and lend his design and communication skills to Village Preservation’s work to help preserve and celebrate these communities. He’s eagerly anticipating the opportunity to grow our presence in social media, to expand our use of video, and to help create and connect people to our resources, programs, and advocacy campaigns.

Outside of design, Gaël is a singer-songwriter inspired by Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and The Black Keys, among others. A resident of Harlem, he is currently learning to read and write French fluently, improve his math skills, and become a strong swimmer. Through all his creative and personal growth, Gaël says he moves with one aim: to create work that resonates, honors his roots, and leaves something meaningful behind.
