City Council Candidate Forum Videos; Primary June 27th, Early Voting June 17-25th
Last week we held a very well attended forum co-sponsored by LESPI for candidates in the upcoming primary for the 1st City Council District covering most of Manhattan south of Houston Street (map). For an hour and a half, candidates were asked about their positions and records on issues related to preservation, development, housing affordability, small businesses, and more.
Earlier last month, we held a forum for candidates for the 2nd City Council District (most of Manhattan east of Sixth Avenue between Houston and 30th Streets — map). Incumbent Councilmember Carlina Rivera refused to participate, while challenger Allie Ryan did. The forum also covered issues related to preservation, development, housing affordability, small businesses, and more.
Incumbent Councilmember Erik Bottcher is not facing a challenger in the upcoming primary for the 3rd Council District.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, Village Preservation cannot endorse or recommend candidates. However, we can and do help provide information to educate yourself about candidates’ and elected officials’ records and positions on issues — at election time and throughout the year — and encourage you to vote. This election is expected to be especially low turnout, making every vote especially important and impactful.
