Cutting Through the Deceit in Ballot Questions 2-4: VOTE NO

Mayor Adams has engineered placing three questions on the ballot to be decided by the voters later this fall that would forever change the NYC Charter or Constitution, and the way decision-making happens in our city. Disguised as “affordable housing” measures, these changes would actually be deeply harmful to affordability, as well as democracy and healthy neighborhoods.
These measures would give almost unchecked power to the Mayor to make decisions on important land use issues, removing from the process steps that have typically resulted in greater affordability, more resources to protect communities, broader public input, and better planning. Village Preservation will be providing deeper analysis and explanation in the days ahead. But the upshot is these ballot measures would exacerbate the worst elements of planning and development in our city, giving unchecked authority to the executive branch and taking it from the legislative branch, resulting in worse outcomes for healthy, affordable, livable neighborhoods.
