Save the Merchants House from Oversized Hotel Rezoning Plan Next Door

A plan to erect a nearly 100 ft. tall hotel next door to the Merchant’s House Museum, at 27 East 4th Street, has reared its head again.  Approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission over vociferous opposition, the plan now goes to the City Planning Commission, because it requires zoning changes to allow uses and massing of the planned building not currently allowed in the area.

The Merchant’s House Museum is deeply worried that the construction next door to their 1832 houses will cause significant and possibly irreparable damage to this local, state, and national landmark, which serves a vital public role.
