Support Preservation and Our Midyear Appeal

As you can see, we have more work to do than ever to protect our neighborhoods and promote preservation. At Village Preservation, we work to ensure that the best of our past is preserved, even as we build a better future for all.

That’s what we’ve been doing since 1980, and it’s made us the largest membership organization in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo, and the guardian of these neighborhoods. Over the last 45 years, we’ve won landmark protections for more than 1,300 buildings in our neighborhoods, and zoning protections to guide new development for nearly 100 blocks. We’ve saved the homes of great artists like Frank Stella and Willem de Kooning from the wrecking ball, and secured groundbreaking landmark designations for civil rights sites like the former NAACP headquarters, the Stonewall Inn and Julius’ Bar, and the home of abolitionist Jacob Day at 50 West 13th Street. And we’re fighting for landmark designations to recognize and protect beautiful and historic sites in our neighborhoods critical to women’s history, Hispanic history, and the history of people with disabilities, while issuing hard-hitting reports that expose the flaws in the city’s planning and preservation policies.

We don’t just fight. We celebrate, educate, and uplift, with 80 free public programs annually, hundreds of online resources illuminating our neighborhoods’ remarkable histories, special programs to support local small independent businesses, and educational programs for thousands of children throughout NYC each year, regardless of need or ability to pay.

But we can’t do it without you. Donations and support from individuals like you make up 85% of our annual budget. You determine how hard we can fight, how much we’re able to celebrate, and how many people we can reach and educate.

Consider a most generous donation to Village Preservation to support our midyear appeal.
