Update on 5G Towers in the West Village and Elsewhere
Village Preservation continues to push back on the city’s plan to install huge 32-ft-tall 5G towers throughout our neighborhoods. Earlier this month installation began on two towers at Washington Street at Horatio and West 12th Streets, shortly after the city claimed at public meetings no installations were imminent and that comments on siting were still being considered. VP and many others immediately reached out to Councilmember Erik Bottcher and city officials to object, and work was halted — for now.
The city’s 5G tower installation plan remains full of contradictions and inconsistencies, and in many cases appears to violate other rules and commitments. Village Preservation is working with allies across the neighborhood and city to halt or alter this program, to ensure our neighborhoods are adequately protected and siting decisions are sound.
