Correcting Department of Building Landmark Records

In 2006, Village Preservation discovered and publicized a flaw in the City’s record keeping system which failed to properly identify more than 10% of landmarked properties in our neighborhood and throughout the city as such. The flaw potentially allowed landmarked buildings to receive demolition or alteration permits which should not be issued. Only after Village Preservation repeatedly and publicly called out the City for failing to correct this flaw was it finally fixed.
