Village Preservation has recently added more than two dozen historic images culled from recent landmarks applications to our Historic Image Archive. This includes a series showing printed wall signs on buildings in the Meatpacking District, NoHo, and the West Village from the 1910s to the 1940s; an 1891 image of Clinton Hall (demolished) on Astor Place and Lafayette Street, the former Astor Place Opera House and scene of the infamous 1849 Astor Place Opera Riots; and the former home of John Lennon and Yoko Ono on Bank Street, among many others.

Village Preservation’s Historic Image Archive has over 3,600 images in dozens of collections, ranging from the late 18th to the early 21st century. The archive focuses on Greenwich Village, the East Village, NoHo, and other parts of Lower Manhattan, but contains historic images of landmarks and noteworthy sites throughout the five boroughs as well.  

Prints (suitable for framing) of many of these images are available for purchase — for yourself or as gifts. All proceeds support our work.
