Communications Manager

David Herman, our Communications Manager since May 2021, is a graphic designer, editor, and photographer, as well as a longtime activist focusing on livable streets, better biking, and a more equitable built environment in New York City. He is a previous co-chair of Transportation Alternatives’ Brooklyn Activist Committee, where he served on campaigns to improve Atlantic Avenue, the Brooklyn Bridge, and elsewhere. His award-winning work fulfilling the group’s design needs and strengthening its social-media presence has broadened its reach throughout the borough. He is also a public member of Brooklyn’s Community Board 6. Over the last two decades, David has trained his visual and written know-how on helping nonprofits and government agencies. He has served as an art director, editor, and photographer with the Park Slope Civic Council in Brooklyn and the New York League of Conservation Voters, as well as deputy director of public affairs for the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office. He’s a lifelong Brooklyn resident, except for his undergraduate years at the University of Pennsylvania, and a constant explorer of our city’s bounty of architectural and historic treasures.
