Big Business and Real Estate Lining Up to Fund Mayor’s Ballot-Question Power Grab

New reports indicate big business and real estate interests are digging deep to fund Mayor Adams’ attempted power grab, which will appear on the ballot in November. Ballot questions 1–3 will consolidate Mayoral control over important land-use decisions, reducing or eliminating local communities’ say and ability to negotiate changes to and mitigations of negative impacts from major projects.

The City Council is arguing that these Charter revision questions should not be allowed to appear on the ballot, saying they are misleadingly written. If they remain on the ballot and pass, decision-making will be concentrated in the hands of developers and the Mayor, with local communities and their elected representatives cut out of the process.

Village Preservation is strongly recommending a “NO” vote on ballot questions 1–3 this fall.
