Cutting through the Deception Behind the City’s Big Development Deregulation Push

We’ve recently produced a series of videos and image carousels that break down a pervasive and pernicious myth you’ve probably been hearing a lot about lately: that the reason why housing is expensive in NYC is that we’re just not building enough, and that just building more — even oversized and super-expensive luxury condos and rentals — makes housing better and more affordable for everyone. It’s based on several fundamental lies about who this helps and how it works, which we expose in our new shareable media.

This is important for more than just your edification. Mayor Adams and some of our other elected representatives want to keep doing more and more of this throughout our neighborhoods and city. The Mayor is proposing a “Manhattan Plan” to change zoning rules to accommodate construction of 100,000 additional units of housing in the borough, mostly via ultra-dense, ultra-high-rise, ultra-expensive new housing.
