Fighting Plan for 600-ft.-Tall Tower with Luxury Condos in Meatpacking District

Mayor Adams has chosen a developer to build a 600-ft.-tall tower containing super-luxury apartments (as well as an unspecified number of “affordable” ones — the actual affordability of which has not been set or defined and could be unaffordable to the majority of New Yorkers) on city-owned land at Little West 12th and West Streets (just north of the Whitney Museum). But with Mayor Adams leaving office, the process for finalizing and approving this plan won’t be decided by Adams, but by Mayor-elect Mamdani, local City Councilmember Erik Bottcher and the City Council, and incoming Manhathan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal.

We’re calling on all three to oppose this plan and come back with a new one that:

  • Eliminates all luxury housing from this publicly-owned site.
  • Reduced the outrageous size of the proposed tower by 50-75% to something much more in scale for its context.
  • Include truly affordable housing that is guaranteed to remain permanently affordable.
