Mayor Adams’ “City of Yes” Plan to Get City Council Public Hearing Tuesday, October 22 — SEND LETTERS NOW!
The City Council has announced they will hold what may be their only hearing allowing testimony from the public on Mayor Adams’ “City of Yes” citywide rezoning plan on Tuesday, October 22, beginning at 9:30am and expected to last all day. We strongly urge you to sign up to testify (in person or via Zoom) and urge the Council to reject the harmful elements of the plan.
The Mayor’s proposal would:
- Allow bigger and taller purely luxury condo buildings in our neighborhoods, particularly in areas that were zoned for “contextual” development
- Allow “air rights” to be transferred around significantly larger sections of our neighborhood with little or no public oversight, resulting in bigger and taller luxury condo and commercial development in our neighborhoods
- Allow building on precious open space and rear yards in our neighborhoods where development is currently prohibited or limited
- Allow larger-scale development on open space around houses of worship, on NYU superblocks, and at NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments that “City of Yes” deems “campuses”
- Eliminate incentives for including new affordable housing in some parts of our neighborhoods, while allowing developers to build larger luxury condo developments without any affordable housing or other public benefits in return
