We’ve just added more than two dozen new images to our historic image archive donated by Jillian Jonas, who was the house photographer at the legendary Boy Bar on St. Marks Place in the 1990s. There she captured the explosive drag performance scene which had been centered in the East Village going back to the 1970s and 60s. Her photos capture performers in the stage lights, backstage, and around town, at a heady time when the downtown drag performance scene was transforming boundaries around gender and between performer and audience. This new collection supplements the incredible treasure trove of images donated from Jillian we shared in June.
