NoHo-SoHo Rezoning Meeting Thursday Feb. 28 Starting at 6pm

The City, Borough President Gale Brewer, and City Councilmember Margaret Chin are holding another workshop regarding the potential rezoning of the NoHo and SoHo neighborhoods this Thursday at the Municipal Building (1 Centre Street) North Mezzanine – more info here.

In January, the city’s Department of City Planning, Borough President Gale Brewer, and City Councilmember Margaret Chin announced the launch of “a public engagement process to inform future planning efforts in…SoHo and NoHo,” the current zoning for which they said, “presents increasing challenges to the continued vitality of SoHo/NoHo.” An initial ‘Open House’ for the planning process saw an unanticipated crowd of hundreds of residents expressing skepticism about the process and the meeting, which the press described as “chaotic.”

Since the announcement of the Advisory Board, in which the conveners refused to allow GVSHP to participate, real estate concerns have announced the formation of a coalition to push for changes through this process to suit their interests, and proposals have emanated from NYU calling for changes to allow larger development and more university uses in NoHo.

GVSHP will continue to work with allied community groups and closely monitor this process.
