Planned Public Hearing on New Recreation Center and Dapolito Planned for Wednesday CANCELLED

Rallying last week to save the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center.

The City was originally scheduled to make a public presentation at Community Board 2’s Parks Committee this coming Wednesday on plans for their new recreation center at 388 Hudson Street, which so far has been premised on demolishing the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center. But now on the heels of our recent press conference at which we revealed the City lied about conditions at the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center and hid that their own analysis showing that it could be repaired and reopened, they have abruptly cancelled their planned public presentation

Is the City rethinking their plans in light of these recent revelations, and those by Village Preservation that their chosen developer for the project was named one of “100 Worst Landlords in NYC”? Are they just regrouping or hiding from the public? We don’t know yet, but we will stay on them until we get answers, and change their plans for the demolition of the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center and for 388 Hudson Street

While we wait to learn the City’s next move, you can help ensure Mayor Mamdani keeps his campaign promise to repair and reopen the Center, and local elected officials support efforts to ensure the same happens.
