Rally Tomorrow at 1 pm for a Dapolito Reset

With Mayor Adams, the architect of demolition plans for the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center, dropping his bid for a second term, we have a unique opportunity for a reset on plans for the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center and to see it restored, modernized, and reopened.
We’re calling on all Mayoral candidates to keep the long unfulfilled promise to repair and reopen the Center. Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani recently made some very encouraging pronouncements in that vein, and we’re urging all candidates to make a 100% commitment to see the landmarked Center preserved and brought back to life. We’re also asking Councilmember Erik Bottcher, who supported City Council approval for funding to demolish the Center, to pledge to immediately reach out to and encourage the next Mayor to put forward a plan for preservation and restoration.
We and fellow downtown community organizations are holding a rally tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8 at 1 pm, in front of the Center to amplify these calls for a reset, repairs, and reopening.
