Report Reveals Adams Is Lowest on List for Mayors and Landmarking
Our first-of-its-kind report analyzing nearly 60 years of landmark designations in NYC and all 38,000 properties that have been landmarked continues to make waves — particularly the finding that under Mayor Adams, landmark designations have reached an all-time low affecting every corner of the city; that a real estate industry bill approved by the City Council appears to have made landmark designations smaller and fewer; and that the city is increasingly refusing to consider endangered historic sites for landmark designation while leaning on already protected sites or those unlikely to face any foreseeable danger anytime soon for their very small number of designations.
It’s critical that the Mayor and city leaders know that New Yorkers don’t want to see this trend continue, and believe that a vigorous effort to preserve our city’s key historic sites — across all neighborhoods and representing all histories — is key to our city’s success.
