State Supports Our Opposition to New 32-ft.-Tall 5G Tower
We continue to make progress in our pushback against the siting of ungainly, oversized, and in many cases unnecessary 32-ft.-tall metallic 5G towers on the streets of our neighborhoods. A new application has been filed for one at West 4th Street and Greene Street where, as we argued, it would negatively impact several historic buildings around it. We were pleased to recently see that the NY State Historic Preservation Office has agreed with our objections, putting a significant hurdle in front of siting the tower here as it goes through the historic preservation review process for which we have been named a consulting party.
Our efforts have already resulted in plans for several of these oversized towers in our neighborhoods being dropped or halted based upon these concerns.Village Preservation continues to monitor every application for such towers anywhere in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo, and as a consulting party for the historic preservation review process documents the negative impact such towers would have upon surrounding historic resources when they exist and argues against siting at those locations.
