May is a great time to celebrate Bob Dylan. His album The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan was released on May 27th, 1963, and Dylan will celebrate his 82nd birthday on May 24! Dig through the Village Preservation archives and resources to celebrate this icon of folk and rock in Greenwich Village.

We’ll comb through the history of Bob Dylan’s iconic performance locations, like Cafe Wha?, The Gaslight Cafe, The Folklore Center, and Gerdes Folk City. You’ll hear stories that could only happen in Greenwich Village and see photos of locations that impacted Bob Dylan’s life and career while learning more about the basket houses, coffee houses, and stages that Bob Dylan and his contemporaries changed with their new approaches to performance, music, and sharing a message.

This webinar will serve as a virtual tour, a reading of Bob Dylan’s work, and an opportunity to share your own memories of Bob Dylan’s work in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo. Celebrate the life and work of this Icon with Village Preservation right between his birthday and release of this memorable album. Join Village Preservation Staff and special guests as we delve into the Village Preservation archives and research to shine light on this historic, living, figure that has a deep connection to our neighborhoods.

Facilitated by Village Preservation staff, we’ll journey through the Bob Dylan tour we created along with the archival materials and research Village Preservation has on this local icon.
