Removal of Fake Ivy is a Holiday Gift to the Village
This one was a long time coming. Just in time to ring in the new year, the fake ivy over at 47 West 8th Street has finally come down!
As readers may recall, both the ivy and the permastone on this building (which unfortunately remains in place) were installed without permits. In response to a warning letter from the City, the owners applied to legalize the changes. The City did its part by denying the legalization, though they were far softer on them than we would have hoped (considering the owners knew such changes required landmarks permits).
Will 2012 be a plastic-free year for the Village? Only if the group over at 62 West 9th Street follows the trend (their fake ivy is also illegal).
If you see something which you believe may be a landmarks violation (destruction/inappropriate alteration of or unpermitted work upon a landmark structure or structure in a historic district), tap into GVSHP’s Preservation Watch Program by letting us know! We want to ensure that landmarks violations are reported and acted upon as swiftly and thoroughly as possible.
