Viva Loisaida!
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Loisaida Festival, a celebration of Latino culture, community, and the arts. Marlis Momber, a commercial photographer who moved to and began documenting the East Village and Loisaida in the mid 1970’s, was kind enough to share an image she took of Luis Rivera, son of Adela Fargas of the famously delicious Casa Adela, and Carmen Pabon, founder of the partially demolished Bello Amancerer Borincano garden celebrating at the first Loisaida Festival in 1987. Marlis will be exhibiting more of her photographs at Casa Adela at 66 Avenue C this weekend. You can also view more of her amazing photographs here .
We have a lot of fun things for you to take part in this summer including the Justus H. Schwab historic plaque unveiling & celebration on May 30, a talk by Christopher Bram about the impact of gay writers in post-war America on June 5 and our Annual Village Awards ceremony on June 7. Have a great Memorial Day!
