Longtime GVSHP member Miriam Cahn has called the Village her home for over 45 years. She was a special education teacher at Lennox Hill Hospital for many years before retiring to fulfill her calling as an artist. She recently contacted GVSHP to donate some of her extensive art collection to GVSHP. Her original collection covers a wide range of New York City people and places. You may note that her art is signed “Myriam”. She adopted this as her artist pseudonym because there was already an acclaimed artist named Miriam Cahn.
We are very excited to share the first release of her donated art. The art in this collection was created between 1980 and 2011, and range in size from 5″x7″ to 9″x12″. The collection Ms. Cahn has donated to GVSHP includes various Village scenes. Many are of readily identifiable locations, such as Lafayette Street’s Colonnade Row or Grace Church. Others are not as descript, such as her paintings titled A Greenwich Village Street and View on 8th Street. If you can identify any of the locations that we have not identified on the map, please let us know by emailing email@example.com.
