Robert Rauschenberg
October 22, 1925 – May 12, 2008

Painter, Sculptor, Photographer, and Performer
Rauschenberg was an eclectic and genre-defying artist who worked across many mediums. His “Combines” transformed found objects from the streets of New York.

Rauschenberg bought the Victorian era building at 381 Lafayette Street in 1965, creating a space to live/work and collaborate with many friends, artists, and scientists. The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation was founded by the artist in 1990 and continues to nurture artists at 381 Lafayette to this day.
