The NYC Department of Housing, Preservation, and Development has launched its website for sharing information and providing public input on plans for the development of the open lot at 388 Hudson Street (at Clarkson Street) in the West Village as 100% affordable housing. You can access the website HERE. 

As Village Preservation previously reported, the City is rapidly moving through the process of deciding what kind of affordable housing development will be built here. Factors to be determined are the size and massing of the building, the type of affordable housing, and what sort of ground floor (and possibly basement) community facility use might be located there. Community Board 2 has been pushing the City to consider a larger development for the site. Village Preservation has urged that the new development minimize shadows on well-utilized J.J. Walker Park across the street, ensure the design is contextual and serves as an appropriate transition between the larger former loft/manufacturing buildings to the south and the low-rise historic residential neighborhood to the north, and look for ways to configure the building to keep it low and squat rather than tall.
