City Council District 3 Special Election Four Weeks from Today, Early Voting Begins April 18

The special non-partisan election to fill the 3rd City Council District seat vacated by Erik Bottcher will be held four weeks from today on April 28, with early voting beginning ten days earlier on April 18. That election will likely have a low turnout, so every vote will count. City Councilmembers play an enormously important role in determining the extent of new development and preservation in our communities, as well as so many other issues that intersect with our daily lives.
This is a ranked choice election, so you can actually rank all candidates rather than just voting for one. The district covers most of Manhattan west of 6th Avenue between Spring and West 55th Street, and includes the West Village, Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, the Theater District, and parts of Hudson Square.
Earlier this month, Village Preservation held a forum with all declared candidates on preservation issues, and distributed a questionnaire to which all candidates responded extensively exploring their positions and records on preservation and development issues. As a 501(c)(3) organization, we cannot endorse or recommend candidates, but we can provide you with information about candidates and encourage you to make informed choices, and vote.
