Historian and blogger (Daytonian in Manhattan) Tom Miller explores the fascinating history of New York’s Kleindeutschland, or Little Germany, through stories of a few surviving structures including Beethoven Hall, the German Odd Fellows’ Hall and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church among others. The German immigrants of the Lower East Side endured hardships through music, religion and fellowship, and overcame devastating tragedy through determination and perseverance.
