Saving the Light: Restoration of Artist’s Spaces in the Village

The Village’s long history as a hub for creatives altered the neighborhood’s built architecture. Thanks to thorough restoration and preservation efforts, we can still enjoy these historic spaces. In this special panel conversation, we will gain glimpses of the mysterious spaces where artists created and displayed their work. From 2017 to 2018, the Renee and Chaim Gross Foundation underwent an extensive restoration of Chaim Gross’s studio. Similar work restored Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney’s studio at the New York Studio School, and Salmagundi Club’s main gallery.
Architects, builders, and coordinators Kurt Hirschberg, Michael Devonshire, Alicia Cooper, and Carl Culbreth will join Gross Foundation Executive Director Sasha Davis to discuss these spaces, the restorations, and more.
