These houses were originally constructed as a pair of two story Federal style row houses ca. 1835-1836. The houses were raised to three stories in 1868, and later combined. They and their surroundings were landmarked as part of the Greenwich Village Historic District Extension II (South Village) proposed by Village Preservation in 2010. Through Village Preservation’s efforts, they were also listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places in 2013.
