Join us Monday, September 27, at 6 pm for a virtual unveiling of our latest historic plaque honoring trailblazing writer Anaïs Nin. This is our 17th plaque marking historically significant sites in our neighborhoods and the people, events, and institutions connected to them.

Anaïs Nin, a renowned author whose diaries, novels, short stories, essays, and volumes of erotica have influenced countless artists and activists, operated her personal press at 17 East 13th Street, in the area South of Union Square, during a seminal period in her career. There, she self-published some of her first works, personally directing all aspects of the printing process, including the selection of typeface, paper, and engravings, which she regarded as an extension of her creative process and writing. Her work here helped launch Nin’s career, connecting her to larger publishers and audiences. Join us virtually for the unveiling of the plaque on the building, which still stands today, with Village Preservation Executive Director Andrew Berman, Nin biographer Katherine Rowland, Nin publisher Paul Herron, and Nin scholar and friend Suzanne Nalbantian.
