Another 32-ft.-Tall 5G Tower Proposed for West 12th and Washington Streets — Help Us Stop It

(l.) 32-ft.-tall 5G tower with digital screen proposed for West 12th and Washington Streets; (r.) the intersection with low-rise historic landmarked buildings and cobblestoned streets.

A new 32-ft.-tall metallic 5G tower has been proposed for the northwest corner of West 12th and Washington Streets in front of 100 Jane Street in the Far West Village — this one with a large digital display screen. We’ve submitted testimony for the historic preservation review process urging that the tower not be sited here, directly across the street from the Greenwich Village Historic District and facing the cobblestoned West 12th Street.

Village Preservation has been working hard to ensure that the historic preservation review process for these towers, of which we are a named “consulting party,” provides the meaningful protection for historic resources it’s supposed to have. We’ve submitted testimony opposing, and waged campaigns to mobilize the public against, planned 5G towers at 771 Greenwich/99 Bank Street, 100 Horatio Street, 184 East 7th Street (Tompkins Square Park), and 445 West Street/Westbeth (which has been withdrawn as a result).
